Sen. Pappas first billSPRINGFIELD – On Wednesday, State Senator Diane Pappas (D-Itasca) passed her first bill through the Illinois Senate to help municipalities receive a full payment from the motor fuel tax fund.

“I am proud to help our communities receive their fair share of funding to fix our roads,” Pappas said. “Our local governments know best where to allocate funding for infrastructure improvements, and receiving the proper amount of funds under the gas tax will drive the initiatives we need to keep commuters moving.”

Under current law, a municipality initiating a road annexation, disconnection and annexation, or disconnection must report the action to the local election authority and post office branches serving the territory within 30 days. House Bill 5098 adds the Department of Transportation to the list of entities that must be notified so they can make proper adjustments to the Motor Fuel Tax formula.

“This legislation will help bring more funds to fix the roads in DuPage County communities, who are annexing new roads to assist with population growth,” Pappas said.

House Bill 5098 passed the Senate and heads the governor’s desk for further consideration.
